Fun: Flour Power Studios - Charlotte

Last Saturday the girls and I attended a grand opening of a new kids cooking studio called Flour Power. <-- how cute is that name?? I love it already!

They have another location a little further North in Charlotte, but this was a 2nd location they opened in the S. Charlotte area. I loved the decor inside! It was mix of retro and modern and they were definitely playing up on the flower/flour theme a lot. And the colors in the studio were very vibrant and fun!

First thing the kids did was decorate their own paper chefs hat!

They also got to spin a prize wheel. My kids LOVE prize wheels!

Next we headed to a back room which acts as another cooking/prep area. The girls were give cookies to decorate.

Ready to enjoy them!

It was a really cute event and the girls really enjoyed themselves! Here is the Flour Power website so you can poke around and check them out. Click here for more info on their birthday party options and pricing. Seems like an awesome idea! :)

Future: Dear Little Ones...

Dr. Kelly Flanigan is a therapist who has seen women who needs a good man in their life time and time again. He wanted to write a letter to not only his little girl, but to every woman out there. It’s a fantastic reminder of what a man needs to be to his wife. (I love this for my two girls!)

Dear Cutie-Pies,

Recently, your mother and I were searching for an answer on Google. Halfway through entering the question, Google returned a list of the most popular searches in the world. Perched at the top of the list was “How to keep him interested.”

It startled me. I scanned several of the countless articles about how to be sexy and sexual, when to bring him a beer versus a sandwich, and the ways to make him feel smart and superior.

And I got angry.

Little Ones, it is not, has never been, and never will be your job to “keep him interested.”

Little Ones, your only task is to know deeply in your soul—in that unshakeable place that isn’t rattled by rejection and loss and ego—that you are worthy of interest. (If you can remember that everyone else is worthy of interest also, the battle of your life will be mostly won. But that is a letter for another day.)

If you can trust your worth in this way, you will be attractive in the most important sense of the word: you will attract a boy who is both capable of interest and who wants to spend his one life investing all of his interest in you.

Little Ones, I want to tell you about the boy who doesn’t need to be kept interested, because he knows you are interesting:

I don’t care if he puts his elbows on the dinner table—as long as he puts his eyes on the way your nose scrunches when you smile. And then can’t stop looking.

I don’t care if he can’t play a bit of golf with me—as long as he can play with the children you give him and revel in all the glorious and frustrating ways they are just like you.

I don’t care if he doesn’t follow his wallet—as long as he follows his heart and it always leads him back to you.

I don’t care if he is strong—as long as he gives you the space to exercise the strength that is in your heart.

I couldn’t care less how he votes—as long as he wakes up every morning and daily elects you to a place of honor in your home and a place of reverence in his heart.

I don’t care about the color of his skin—as long as he paints the canvas of your lives with brushstrokes of patience, and sacrifice, and vulnerability, and tenderness.

I don’t care if he was raised in this religion or that religion or no religion—as long as he was raised to value the sacred and to know every moment of life, and every moment of life with you, is deeply sacred.

In the end, Little Ones, if you stumble across a man like that and he and I have nothing else in common, we will have the most important thing in common:

You.

Because in the end, Little Ones, the only thing you should have to do to “keep him interested” is to be you.

Your eternally interested guy,

Daddy

Food: Buckeyes - Recipe

I am determined to learn how to cook, bake and sew. Follow along on my failures and successes! Ha ha. Here is one I am going to try.

Buckeyes - Easy Peasy Recipe!!!

These look like an easy great recipe for book club or something similar. Gonna have to try them. (PS right after I look for a way to make them a little heathier)

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups Creamy Peanut Butter
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 - 4 cups powdered sugar
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 tablespoons All-Vegetable Shortening

COMBINE peanut butter, butter, vanilla and salt in large bowl. Beat with an electric mixer on LOW until blended. Add 2 cups powdered sugar, beating until blended. Beat in additional powdered sugar until mixture, when shaped into a ball, will stay on a toothpick. Shape into 1-inch balls. Refrigerate.

PLACE chocolate chips and shortening in microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on MEDIUM for 30 seconds. Stir. Repeat until mixture is smooth. Reheat as needed while coating peanut butter balls.

INSERT toothpick in peanut butter ball. Dip 3/4 of ball into chocolate, leaving top uncovered to resemble a buckeye. Remove excess. Place on wax paper-lined tray. Remove toothpick. Smooth over holes. Refrigerate until firm.

As always I will share photos and updates after I actually make them.

Family: First Friday - Downtown Waxhaw

One of the cool parts about being newbies in a big town that has small town feel is the ability to explore what the town has to offer! We stumbled upon something called First Friday. Basically the first friday night of almost every month the town plans an event downtown on main street. Here is some official info on it.

First Fridays
First Fridays in Waxhaw are filled with opportunities to have a greats night on the town. Local businesses and restaurants stay open late, offering special discounts, while free carriage rides are available to the public. Each month, themed events and offerings take place in the middle of the town. Events have included art crawls, pumpkin carving stations, live music and more. First Fridays are organized by the Small Town Main Street Promotions Committee and are always a great option for those looking for the new and unique!

Sold! So off we went.

First we stopped at the Waxhaw playgroud on Main Street to let the kids play for a bit and then cooled them off at the Waxhaw Creamery!

We met some people who had just moved here from New York and talked with them for a bit while all our daughters played. We also walked around and popped into some of the new shops on Main street. The girls were excited to get their face painted! (well maybe a tiny fraction of their cheek...)

Next it was time for CARRIAGE RIDES!

Such a great family night.

And we just love horsies!!!

Family: Happy Birthday Daddy

Happy Birthday to the best Daddy! He may not be perfect, but he has overcome so much. He is constantly trying to improve and be better and change his life. He does so much for us at home. All the laundry, all the dishes, keeps up with the house outside. He works from home so he can be there for the kids and me. He sometimes helps them get off the bus and get homework started if I am running errands. He takes them to dance and gymnastics! He works so hard and we are so grateful! We love you Daddy!

For his birthday I made him this kit kat snickers chocolate cake!

Future: This will change your life...

... if you live by them. You have to practice every day till it becomes second nature! :)
